A small (~50 people) City-based company building and operating control software for the energy sector. Specialising in demand-side response, where the National Grid pay huge energy consumers to turn down their loads during peak times, to avoid power cuts. Our clients include hospitals, banks, office buildings, shopping malls, utility companies and manufacturers.
The companies core product controls client's assets (pumps, generators, furnaces, etc) across the UK and Europe. They are currently rebuilding the server in Scala.
The company needs someone who is confident in Scala, but who can also help out in other languages as needed. Some devices run Squirrel, their GUIs are written in Elm and React, and they are phasing out a bunch of legacy code written in Java and PHP (sigh). If you know any of those, or are willing to learn one or two (they're all easier than Scala), that would be marvellous.
All our developers come from an Agile background
Our new stack is deployed on AWS, and knowledge of CloudFormation or Terraform would be nice. If you understand (or want to learn) the issues around so-called IoT deployments, debugging hardware with oscilloscopes or analysis of control algorithms, that would be welcome.
