Spring Technology's client, a public sector organisation, are currently looking to recruit a Database Administrator for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of c.£500-600/day (outside of IR35) based in Edinburgh.

The Role:

Great opportunity to become an integral part of a multi-disciplined Agile team. You will play a key part in the DBA community of practise, sharing your craft for the discipline practise and harmonising database strategy and approach across multiple service teams.

Responsibilities:

* Ensure appropriate access controls are in place, monitored and adhered with.

* Monitor, manage and where necessary improve performance of databases to meet the expectations of the end-users.

* Work within a multi-skilled devops team looking at re-platforming/re-developing existing applications.

* Map out conceptual designs for planned databases or database changes.

* Assist with and support new data modelling exercises.

* Review designs to meet system storage requirements.

* Update, install and test new versions of databases.

* Create database documentation e.g. data standards and local work instructions (LWI).

* Control access permissions and privileges.

* Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.

* Ensure storage and archiving procedures function correctly.

* Attend both team and software development Agile stand-ups.

* Troubleshoot and resolve any database related issues; provide guidance to other ICT technical teams on database related issues.

Requirements:

* Must have hands on project experience with either Postgres (9.x-10), Mongodb (2.x-3.6) or SQL Server (2012-2016)- ideally experience with more than one of these technologies.

* Experience of large scale data migration projects.

* Experience working in an Agile team.

* Experience with database tuning and database security.

* Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, shell scripting/ bash would be highly advantageous.

* Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, TICK (Telegraf, InfluxDB, Chronograf, Kapacitor), Solar Winds, SCOM would be highly advantageous.

* GDPR knowledge is desirable.

* A real interest in open source technologies and a devops approach.

* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
