Various sources (I sound like the Daily Mail…) have claimed that the average job seeker spends approximately 90 seconds reading a job advert before deciding whether to press 'next' or 'apply'. So with that in mind, I wanted to try and craft something that is short (and sweet), informative and hopefully something that gets your attention.

Here it goes…

I am working in partnership with a global organisation in the financial services/banking space who are actively recruiting for a Technical Project Manager. We will come to the 'technical' bit in a second, but the core focus of the role will be working across the end-to-end delivery lifecycle for a number of open banking and digital projects. This role is a hugely strategic part of their 2018 recruitment plans as improving their technical delivery function is right at the top of their agenda, so expect quicker CV feedback and interview turnaround (crosses fingers).

In terms of location, the role will be primarily based out of their Knutsford HQ in Cheshire but they do offer the opportunity to work from home around 1 or 2 days' per week… depending on workload of course. Moreover, you will be given free on-site parking, flexible working hours and the opportunity to work for a technologically progressive organisation… what more could you want!

But enough about the company - after all, this advert isn't about the company. Rather, this advert is about the role and specifically, what you'd be doing in said role. So without dragging this out any longer, lets focus on some of the core aspects of this role…

Stakeholder Management - Due to both the size of this organisation and the scope of this role, the degree of stakeholder management is going to be enormous. Your role will involve engaging with both technical and business-facing stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle, managing and influencing expectations whilst at the same time ensuring the correct stakeholders are kept informed at all times. A proven track record working with stakeholders (up to c-level) is a mandatory requirement for this role.

Delivery - As you've probably guessed from the title, the core focus of this role will be delivery - i.e. managing the delivery of technology-focused projects. You will ultimately be responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of projects and workstreams, typically medium in size, as part of a wider enterprise programme of work. You will be expected to work right across the delivery lifecycle, getting involved in requirements gathering/analysis as well as ensuring the correct teams are working their roles effectively. Demonstrateable experience delivering tech projects (budgets between £1-£2 million) is therefore a pre-requisite when applying for this role.

Technical Background - Whilst you won't be coding or fixing any servers (unless s**t really hits the fan!), your role will involve working on delivering software projects so an understanding of the software development lifecycle is an important factor. The core tech stack is hybrid (Java, SQL, C++, .NET, JavaScript) so a diverse technical background would be ideal. Moreover, if you were previously a software engineer then that is even better!

Methodologies - First and foremost, this organisation is not fully Agile (I mean who is really?) - they prefer to say they are Agile with a small 'a'. However, being completely honest, their approach is more of a hybrid Agile/Waterfall model so you don't need to be an Agile evangelist to apply. Their mantra is 'lets use the right methodology for each specific project' so a background working across Agile, Waterfall or even PRINCE2 is fine.

So there you have it... an advert that is hopefully short and sweet enough for you. If you want to follow it up with a chat then you can give me a call on either my office line (0191 338 7540) or my mobile (07943721308). Alternatively, you can send me an email to [email protected] or search for 'Liam Haghighat' on LinkedIn (trust me, I am pretty easy to find with my surname!).
