Location: Bromley - flexibility to work from Bristol/ Swindon

Duration: 2 months

Our client is seeking a Senior Network Engineer/ Technical Design Authority, ideally with experience of working in a large client outsourcing service environment, to work within a client facing project team. The applicant will can design and implement DC LAN and WAN solutions. The applicant will be a good team player with experience of working in geographically dispersed team and with third party network service providers.

Key Responsibilities:

The specific role will incorporate working as part of a team to deliver a new Software Defined Data Centre and taking the lead in running a procurement of a replacement Wide Area Network, evaluating suppliers against requirements and costs.

The role is highly technical and requires the ability to choose a supplier, design the new service and integrate into the SDN. In addition there will be a requirement to run the migration project - reporting to the PM and Senior Network Architect.

This is a varied role requiring a broad range of advanced network skills including:

* Design technical solutions covering product and service selection for the key components of the network technology stack, including network hardware/software.

* Provide ideas and innovation that could enhance the service offering for our client.

* Provide the WAN overall network technical strategy

* Review of client network infrastructures and propose options for improvements.

* Ability to work to deadlines and drive complex network incidents and issues to conclusion

* Taking information from the client and project and turning those into completed design definition and leading the implementation of those changes for the project.

* Compliance with a stringent change management process, where levels of accuracy of proposed implementation activities will be subject to the fullest review and delivery must follow the agreed plan.

Technologies Used:

A good working knowledge of IP, Ethernet, routing and switching within LAN/WAN/Data Centre environments is essential; experience with latest generation virtualisation and overlay technologies is highly desirable. Experience with Firewalls is essential Additional experience with load balancers, hardware proxy devices, IDS/AV, Voice and cloud technologies would be desirable but not essential.

Experience with key vendors, primarily Cisco (IOS and NX-OS) / Fortigate / Checkpoint but other vendor experience is welcome and beneficial.

Person Profile:

The candidate should have considerable practical experience including network design, implementation, operations, support and project/change management within a service oriented and controlled infrastructure.

Essential Skills:

* Proven experience of designing complex network technical solutions.

* Proven experience of designing and implementing complex Data Centre LAN environments.

* Practical working knowledge of WAN/LAN/management/virtualisation technologies and products from leading vendors.

* Practical working knowledge of network protocols and standards.

* Practical working knowledge of Telco/network provider service offers.

* Practical working knowledge of network security.

* Excellent client and communication skills, good presentation both verbal and written.

* Manages own time, ability to work to deadlines and drive complex issues to conclusion.

* Flexible approach to working hours and location.

* Ability to work as part of a dispersed team but also self motivated.

* Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.

* Broad experience of IT solution development.

* Recognised Cisco or other industry certification.

* Excellent consultancy skills.

* Ability to perform and conduct workshops and meetings to develop client solutions.

Desirable Skills:

* Mobility skills/knowledge.

* Previous experience of designing, implementing and supporting infrastructure (Primarily WAN) solutions for large outsourced clients would be beneficial.

Additional Information:

* Travel away from home may be required on occasions.

* The candidate will need to be able to gain basic security clearance required by our Financial Services client.

* Clearance required: Basic Disclosure and Credit Check

* Home work may be allowed with a 50/50 between client site.

* Travel to Bromley will be required weekly. With possible occasional travel between Swindon and Bristol once a month.
