Our Government client based in Edinburgh are recruiting for a Technical Architect. They are currently in the design phase which will lead to the specification of the systems and services needed. A technical architect is required to play a key role in the design and assurance of the programme.

General/Specific Duties

1 Work as a member of the Census Architecture Team and perform tasks and duties as required within this team and across the Census Programme.

2 Propose and agree application architecture policies, standards and design patterns.

3 Propose and agree the application architecture for the Census Programme.

4 Assure that products / systems / services delivered and operated as part of the Census are compliant with these policies, standards and patterns.

5 Take responsibility for producing the technical architecture for specific products / systems / services as required.

Key Skills / Experiences

* Strong Technical and Application Architect skills, defining application and software architecture approaches.

* Familiarity with and experience of digital software architectures and approaches eg microservices, RESTful architecture, LAMP/MEAN, continuous integration, Software as a Service and more traditional Commercial Of The Shelf (COTS).

* Familiarity with and experience of a wide range of application architecture and software development technologies including eg development languages; delivery pipeline/CI tools; code repositories; automated testing tools etc.

* Experience of influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including senior officials, customers and suppliers and ability to mentor less experienced technical colleagues

* Knowledge of software defined infrastructure would be useful.

* Experience working in a "just enough architecture" environment.

* Experience in the management of digital and ICT staff including technical specialists, external contracts and consultants

* Demonstrable experience in working with teams and/or suppliers using diverse delivery models such as agile and waterfall in all phases of service development through to business as usual.
