As Project Manager (Automotive Software) your primary responsibility will be to manage software development for shared common software platforms and embedded programs for multiple projects, developed in multiple locations by multiple teams. The role will include collaboration with other project teams on activity planning, milestone reporting and process review.

You will work with the Program Management, Software, Hardware, System Design, and Functional Safety teams, together with Quality and Product Management departments, to manage the development of software products such that the company's strategic goals are achieved.

You will lead software delivery teams to achieve project goals, escalating for more senior level support in a timely and appropriate manner. You will collaborate with all project teams to ensure consistent and accurate delivery of software products.

You will also take responsibility for your personal development to enhance your project management skills and understanding of what is required to deliver safety critical solutions, particularly ISO 26262 compliance in an Automotive environment.

Job role:

1 Managing the shared automotive software platforms and the executable programs for products under development according to the company's internal and any Customer product development processes.

2 Implementing an Agile approach to software development to maximise productivity and quality, and minimize delivery times.

3 Create, maintain and execute software development plans. Development plans encompass requirements compliance/traceability, software development, validation and verification, software release planning & hardware/software integration and configuration management.

4 Reporting status of software development projects to project teams and leaders.

5 Ensuring all software engineers are fully aware of their software development objectives.

6 Manage and resolve project risks and issues.

7 Ensuring value for money is achieved for the company and our customers

8 Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, particularly ISO26262 and ASPICE.

9 Working to company quality standards

Must have experience and skills in ALL of these areas below:

1 Experience in the role of Project Manager or Project Lead in software development projects.

2 Experience in Agile software development techniques.

3 Experience in managing multiple software projects across diverse teams and locations.

4 Experience in communicating with customers, senior management and project teams.

Desirable experience and skills:

1 Experience with software development.

2 Experience of working with the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) development framework (or CMMi model) for software development.

3 Experience working with automotive OEMs or tier 1 automotive suppliers

4 Experience with the automotive functional safety standard, ISO26262. Alternatively, functional safety experience to other industry standards such as IEC61508, D0178B or similar.

5 Experience with software quality management, including MISRA.

6 Experience with high level automotive CAN protocols, especially UDS-on-CAN, OBD, and J1939

7 AUTOSAR

8 Practical knowledge of automotive and similar technologies, including motor inverters, automotive electronics and topologies and CAN protocols : UDS, XCP, CANopen, J1939, OBDII,

9 Experience with CASE tools, such as requirements management tools, systems and software design tools, analysis tools, etc.

3 Excellent communication skills and able to deal with all levels of the organisation

4 Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise work accordingly

5 Comfortable in customer facing role, confident and thoughtful

6 Must able to work alone with minimum guidance, but also be able to operate effectively as part of a team.

7 Flexibility to travel in UK and overseas

Qualifications required:

1 Qualified to degree level (2:1) in an appropriate engineering discipline such as Computer Science or Systems Engineering, or similar, or in a program/project management related discipline.

Reporting:

The reporting structure is as follows:

1 Project Manager (Automotive Software) reports to the Senior Engineering Manager.

2 Members of all other departments may report to the Project Manager at times for specific projects

Performance:

Your performance will be measured by a combination of quantitative, qualitative and subjective means. You will be assessed by your peer group and senior management. Your performance will be measured by:-

1 Meeting project timescales

2 Meeting product specifications

3 Meeting product cost targets

4 Adherence to company procedures

5 Quality of work
