The Virtualisation and Windows Server Team

IT Services are looking to recruit an experienced System Administrator: Operations engineer to work within the team responsible for the implementation, operation, and support of the University’s Windows server estate and Virtualisation Platform.

The service is hosted on VMware’s vSphere 6.5 products and is implemented across 2 data centres and provides over 1000 virtual servers utilised by services and faculties across the University as well as managing the Windows server OS and SQL implementations. The University also utilises the VMWare NSX and VSAN products and is continuously working to develop the platform and this role will provide an excellent opportunity for an applicant to gain experience on a major implementation and develop skill within a world-leading educational establishment.

As a System Administrator/Operations Engineer, you will be involved in the support of our platforms and infrastructure and supporting monitoring, testing and managing scalability.

This role

An you know the importance of automating server configuration and software deployment, thorough monitoring and making timely backups, quickly responding to alerts, and paying close attention to load levels.

They are able to understand our infrastructure in detail and to work together with the rest of the team to solve various issues. We use Windows Server 2016, 2012R2, 2008R2, and we extensively use virtualization and expect you to be familiar and have experience with those systems.

Understanding of DevOps concepts in order to collaborate, develop automated solutions, and enhance our Continuous Delivery initiatives.
