We are currently seeking a Head of Technology & Data for The Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education. Working in a collaborative and positive environment in the centre of Reading.

The OIA is the designated operator of the student complaints scheme for higher education in England and Wales and is a recognised authority in developing good practice in the handling of student complaints. Since its inception in 2004 the OIA has grown significantly and earned the trust and respect of higher education providers, student organisations and Government. Since 2015, in addition to universities, alternative providers, FE colleges (for the higher education students) and providers of School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITTs) are also covered by the OIA Scheme. Following the Higher Education & Research Act 2017 there will be further expansion in the OIA's membership in 2018.

What will you be doing?

As Head of Technology and Data, you will report directly into the Chief Executive and lead a small technical team of 4 across general IT and Data. This role would suit a great all-rounder who has a strategic mind-set, operates at a high level and is hands on in terms of writing business requirements. You will provide technical guidance to the analysts within the team as well as mentoring them. This is a 50/50 split in terms of Strategic and Technical (General IT architecture, Azure, Dynamics, O365, Data & Data warehousing). Working in a SME environment, direct involvement in technical tasks alongside your team members will be key.

You'll work closely with colleagues as well as with external 3rd parties in putting together the technical strategy and implementing the right technology for the organisation to be as efficient as possible. Immediate challenges will include migrating part of the current infrastructure to the cloud, managing budgets and ensuring the right partnerships are made to shape the future.

What skills should you have?

* Technical background (infrastructure fundamentals - O365, Dynamics CRM/365, systems integrations)

* Working knowledge of SQL, data integrations and data analysis

* Project management (ideally Agile)

* Strategic business mind-set

* Analytical thinking and problem solving / trouble shooting

* Confidence to manage key stakeholders

* Strong track record of delivery

* Ability to convey technical jargon in plain English

Desirable skills include:

* Data warehousing

* PowerBI

* General understanding of web projects

* Cyber Security
