SharePoint Developer, Glasgow

Play a Pivotal Role in our SharePoint Journey

This is an opportunity for an experienced SharePoint developer, looking to advance their career by playing a pivotal role in helping the firm to leverage our SharePoint investment further, and to drive adoption both on-premise and in Office 365.

Hymans Robertson is a forward thinking pensions and benefits consultancy firm, adopting the latest technology as a means of enabling the business to grow, diversify and become more operationally effective. SharePoint is a strategic technology within the firm, providing a central content management platform for our intranet, the focal point for documentation associated with the delivery of client work, general collaboration and an increasing range of internally developed applications.

Where we are on the Journey

The platform has been in place in the firm for over 10 years, it is embedded and widely adopted. With our enterprise wide Office 365 subscription we now see significant opportunities to leverage the latest "productivity suite" offerings from Microsoft through incremental migration to SharePoint Online along with capabilities such as Office, Yammer, Teams, Flow and PowerApps.

You will work as a member of the firm’s Business Applications: a team of technology professionals who manage the firm’s core suite of business applications - this includes developing, administering, supporting and training staff on platforms such as Dynamics CRM, Skype for Business, Office and SharePoint, with a growing emphasis on Office365.

The Business Applications team sits within IT and therefore has access to the wider breadth and depth of experience within the department. The IT department is a well-respected, dynamic organisation that delivers industry leading technology services to the firm. It is an exciting time for the team with our Microsoft centric, hybrid Cloud strategy enabling us to increasingly harness the power of Cloud offerings (Office365 and Azure) to deliver solutions to the business.

The Challenge

You will primarily focus on developing, maintaining and enhancing the on-premise SharePoint platform, whilst playing a key role in the incremental adoption of the Office365 "productivity suite". This sees a longer term objective of migrating to SharePoint Online and exploiting capabilities such as Office, Yammer, Teams, Flow and PowerApps.

This role is targeted at a Microsoft SharePoint Developer with ambition, who is looking to expand their skills in Office365, with the opportunity to influence and deliver key elements of the firm’s technology vision.

You will also provide firm-wide day to day support for any SharePoint / Office365 custom development, alongside other members of the team, by trouble-shooting issues, deploying code fixes and responding to requests for new features from the wider business.

What will you get involved with?

Sharing technical thought leadership in SharePoint development to ensure we are making best use of our current Microsoft "productivity suite" and other integrated systems. Key to this is influencing the incremental migration to the cloud through Office365.

Liaising with internal customers (Product Owners) to design and implement enhanced features to best leverage the Microsoft "productivity suite".

Facilitating wider integration with key business applications including CRM Dynamics and the wider Microsoft technology stack.

Conducting research to identify opportunities to leverage new functionality within the Microsoft "productivity suite" released by Microsoft.

Ensuring that documentation and other technical artefacts are fit for purpose including: test script creation, configuration and customisation documentation, data migration scripts, systems integration maps.

You will also have the opportunity to train and coach the wider Business Applications team to ensure that technical knowledge relating to any custom development to the Microsoft "productivity suite" is distributed where it is needed to support the business.

Managing risks to ensure a reliable and controlled service delivery and compliance with ISO security requirements.

About you

You are likely to be a motivated self-starter who can display initiative and a real passion for the role. You will have excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, planning and organisational skills.

Due to the busy and varied nature of this opportunity you should be able to prioritise and manage projects, juggling conflicting demands in a pressurised environment whilst demonstrating first class customer focus. As a team based role collaborative working approaches will be beneficial and strong attention to detail and commitment to quality will be a prerequisite. To make sure you fit the position you are likely to match the following requirements:

IT- related degree or equivalent work related experience

Strong experience as a SharePoint Developer

Strong web development experience with some of the following: HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript libraries and frameworks including jQuery, bootstrap, TypeScript in Angular JS.

Your experience is also likely to include Microsoft Office suite 2013 and above, developing office add-ins, SQL server 2012 and higher.

Experience with Office365 or a strong desire to develop skills in this area will also be beneficial in the role as well as Microsoft Azure, SharePoint Framework, SharePoint Webhooks, Azure Functions and Web Services advantageous

Excellent software development lifecycle skills will help you to hit the ground running in the role
