What's it all about?

Visa Inc. is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, businesses, financial institutions and governments in more than 200 countries and territories, enabling them to use digital currency instead of cash and checks.

The successful candidate will lead the VisaNet Integrated Payment (VIP) Systems Development team as part of the Network Processing organization. This team is responsible for the ownership and development of all applications for the VIP system. The VIP application applies business logic and routes digital currency between transaction acquirers and issuers globally. The VIP system supports real-time authorization processing for Visa's worldwide consumer credit and debit products, as well as a growing suite of commercial products. Every day during the busiest hours, the VIP system processes thousands of transactions per second across multiple, geographically diverse operational centers. The VIP system is at the heart of Visa's core payment services, and the technology initiatives undertaken by this organization have a direct impact on the global payments market.

What we expect of you, day to day.

* You will be leading a team of 8 or more software engineers in design, software development, testing and support of the VIP system.

* You will instill a culture that works toward the highest standards while ensuring that business requirements are understood and adhered to.

* You will be working closely with other VIP teams to help determine long-term technology strategy for areas of responsibility.

* You will be provide leadership and direction to ensure that strategic planning activities are given appropriate focus.

* You will be an advocate for activities and practices that help to boost overall corporate financial health.

* You will work closely with colleagues in other technology departments as well as the business and product offices to establish effective, productive business relationships; leverage these relationships in order to better understand global business and market drivers, as well as technology initiatives that affect the VIP area.

What we're after…

* 10 or more years of progressively responsible relevant experience.

* Experience with high availability, high volume transaction processing systems is required.

* Experience with IBM's TPF (Transaction Processing Facility) environment is desirable.

* Experience with distributed processing platforms is desirable.

* Proven track record of managing the successful delivery of complex, multi-faceted technology initiatives.

* Solid understanding of software development methodology practices, and a proven history of deploying those practices to ensure successful execution against technology initiatives.

* 5 or more years of strong leadership skills, with recent experience leading a team and driving to results.

* Ability to establish and sustain effective, professional relationships with product and business managers; work closely with business partners in order to understand business drivers and market requirements.

* Knowledge of card payment services processing is highly preferred.

* Candidate must be able to establish and sustain effective software development and support practices that includes working with team members across multiple geographies.

* Good working knowledge of program and project management methodologies and the role of technology resources in support of those methodologies.

* Undergraduate degree in computer sciences, electrical engineering, information systems or a related technical discipline is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

* Candidate must have the right to work in the UK, as this role is based in Reading.
