Field Repair Technician / Production Support Technician £28,000 - £30,000 + benefits

A world leader in Distributed Acoustic Sensing are looking to bring in an experienced field repair engineer or production support technician to join their team and help them with validation of their products and conducting tests for them.

Job description/Person specification

Principal Duties include:

* Building & commissioning prototype / test equipment

* Testing prototype PCBs etc with guidance from design team

* Re-work of PCBs (low volumes)

* Recording details of products returned under RMA

* Fault finding products returned from customers - with guidance from optical / electronic design teams as required.

* Repair of product returned from customers - with guidance from optical / electronic design teams

Writing Fault Investigation Reports

* Monitoring stock of spare parts, replenishing consumables, maintaining tools both in the electronics lab and mechanical workshop areas

* Carrying out production tests on PCBAs and systems

* Completing test, maintenance and QA records

* Maintaining compliance to ISO9001

* Initial point of contact for Phone/online support where problems occur with Interrogator Units in the field. This will include discussing the issue with the field engineer or customer, and carrying out routine checks via remote access software to confirm and begin diagnosis of the fault , and recording details in the appropriate systems.

* Work within the cross functional engineering development teams to support rapid prototyping,

Skills required:

* SMD Soldering

* PCB Rework

* Understanding of electronic circuits to enable fault finding to component level.

* Attention to detail

* Basic IT - use of Microsoft Office and be able to use bespoke software programs and tools

* Use of basic lab equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope etc)

* Mechanical assembly and basic metalwork

* Ability to work on their own initiative or work as part of a multi-disciplined team

Experience required:

* SMD soldering & rework of sub-assemblies to component level in a lab or production environment

* Manual and Semi-automatic test and debugging of PCBAs and Electronic Systems

* Experience of electronics & mechanical prototyping

* Experience of handling & working with Optical Fibers would be advantageous

Experience & Qualifications

* Electrical or Electronics background combined with an HNC, HND or Degree qualification

* Someone has a good understanding of low level electronics

* Digital communications

* Understand circuit diagrams

* Being able to handle and understand fibre optic
