Our client is the charity that saves lives at sea. They are now looking for a Divisional Maintenance Manager to join their team.

This is a crucial role within our client’s engineering and asset management team, providing technical support across all Lifeboat and Lifeguard operations between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Skegness.

Working closely with the Community Lifesaving team, you will be responsible for managing a team of Systems Engineers and Technicians to perform repairs, undertake maintenance and complete modifications across a wide range of boats and equipment.

You must be able to demonstrate strong people management skills and be able to communicate effectively at all levels. You will also need to be able to plan effectively, manage budgets and environmental issues, and work with third party contractors and suppliers.

The role will involve considerable travelling in order to audit work within the division. In addition, surveys and on-site visits will be required at other locations. You will also be required to work a duty rota along with other Technical Managers in the surrounding regions.

Part of a national team reporting to the Principal Maintenance Manager, you will need to implement, monitor and maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety across all aspects of work within your area of responsibility, whilst completing work in the most effective and efficient manner. You will need to support and deliver change to enhance the move to a more efficient organisation in line with the Business Systems Modernisation Programme currently in progress and Lean methodology.

To be considered, you’ll need:

- Marine experience, including the ability to diagnose, fault-find, repair and maintain marine systems, plant and equipment

- Project management experience

- Contract management and financial negotiation experience

- Budget and financial management experience

- A QCF Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment, Process & Practice or equivalent

- An HNC or equivalent

- A time-served apprenticeship in a technical discipline

- A Vocational Level 4 qualification or equivalent in Management

- A QCF Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent

- A full driving licence

You must be prepared to travel and work away from home on a regular basis and ideally be situated between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Skegness.

This isn’t a job for the faint-hearted, but if you want to make a significant contribution to saving lives at sea by providing safe, reliable and efficient boats and equipment for our client’s crews and lifeguards, this could be the job for you.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

The closing date for applications is the 17th June 2018, with interviews scheduled to be held on the 28th and 29th June 2018.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
