Role: SQL Server DBA

Location: Ipswich

Salary: up to £43,000 + Benefits

The DBA team work out of the Ipswich Service Management centre, from where they support both internal and client databases. Actively involved in the full project life cycle, the DBAs provide a first class support, implementation and design service augmented by close integration with the Development teams to provide optimal solutions.

Essential

Solid experience in Database Administration in SQL Server (2005, 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017).

Experience in solving problems and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.

Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler, DMVs, system sprocs and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

Ability to detect and fix SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention issues.

Strong T-SQL & SQL development skills; ability to write and solve problems T-SQL code, design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints) and strong scripting to support automation tasks.

Strong knowledge of SQL Server standard methodologies & running health checks to provide recommendations for performance tuning, including disk, security and memory configuration.

Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, DBCC commands.

Strong knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration and patching.

Knowledge of SQL Server tools (Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SSCM, PerfMon).

General technical troubleshooting and consultation skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Ability to prioritise and plan workload for self and others.

Ability to work under pressure on production systems under an ITIL framework and be part of the 24x7 on call DBA support rota.

Desirable

Experience of MS SQL Server services such as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).

Windows system administration.

Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and Windows Update (WSUS).

Working knowledge of one or more additional RDBMS databases other than MS SQL Server i.e. Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.

Experience of High Availability solutions such as Database Mirroring, Replication, SQL Server Failover Clustering, Log Shipping and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.

Powershell scripting experience.

ITILv3 certification

MCSE Certified

Excellent customer facing skills and initiative (previous consultancy experience would be preferable for ad hoc consultancy).

Delivery focused with the ability to drive tasks forward and meet demanding deadlines.

The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken language.

Very capable of picking up new technologies quickly and a very enthusiastic self-learner.

A willingness to be flexible in terms of work location and to undertake work at client sites if and when required.
