Data Science Team Leader

We're British Airways. Britain's national flag carrier. Flying millions of people to hundreds of destinations each year. Our Central Analytics Team is right at the heart of our global business. Developing insights from a vast range of data. Shaping the customer journey. Underpinning our future strategy - and ensuring we continue to improve operational efficiency and drive revenue growth.

Your role

Leading a team of data scientists and data exploitation specialists, you'll be a champion for the use of pioneering data science and machine learning to take our business forward. This will involve challenging and influencing senior business leaders in the strategic application of data science and assessing the performance of third party machine learning suppliers. You'll also be responsible for the front end tools we use to manipulate big data.

With the ability to manage an extensive project portfolio and prioritise work according to business need, you'll be a coach and mentor to a range of analysts. You'll also need to partner with a variety of business areas, encouraging ideas where your insights can influence and encourage knowledge sharing to improve their decision making. As a recognised leader, you may also represent the department at external events.

What you'll need

We're looking for a highly experienced and innovative data scientist. A confident leader who understands business strategy, with the character to challenge and influence high level decisions and a record of delivering major projects using advanced analytical techniques.

Naturally, you'll need experience of up-to-date software and environments, such as SAS, Python, Spark, Hadoop and AWS, together with an understanding of machine learning methodologies. You'll also have either a BSc, MSc or PhD that includes significant analytical content, or relevant work experience in a data science or similar role.
