Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.
We now have a number of opportunities within our Networks division, which is responsible for managing over £80bn of investment in gas and electricity networks over the next 10 years. These roles offer a unique perspective on regulation within the energy network, and will suit analytically minded individuals who can work confidently with complex data. Your focus will be on RIIO - Ofgem’s framework for setting price controls for network companies. It’s an essential tool in protecting the interests of consumers as well as ensuring the industry still benefits from the investment required to ensure security of supply. You’ll ensure that regulated network companies (transmission and distribution) meet their commitments under RIIO, monitoring compliance in terms of price control and European rules. You’ll also help assess companies’ submissions to calculate the appropriate levels of investment under the RIIO model. And you’ll help to plan for and manage the transition to the RIIO2 price controls which will replace the current model in 2023.
These opportunities demand highly developed analytical skills - working with both quantitative and qualitative data, to identify trends and key policy issues. You’ll need excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing, backed up by the ability to establish positive working relationships with both internal and internal stakeholders. You should be confident in your ability to manage your own workload, prioritising competing demands as required, and work well within a team while taking personal responsibility for outcomes. You’ll be part of a team that is growing significantly and have the opportunity to work collaboratively across London and Glasgow. Good IT skills (Microsoft Office) are also essential.
Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:
Up to 30 days’ annual leave
Excellent training and development opportunities
The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
Subsidised gym and restaurant (London only)
Interest free season ticket loan.
