Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

Our new Data Services team will transform our approach to working with and creating value from our data. A key focus for the team is the establishment of a new enterprise data platform which will enable us to provide regulatory Data as a Service (DaaS) to the energy industry. This will provide Ofgem staff and external stakeholders with the data and modern software tools that they need to exchange information, gain insight and meet their corporate responsibilities.

You will take responsibility for the configuration and on-going management of the Ofgem Data Services cloud platform, a Hortonworks-based Hadoop cluster, based on Azure. You will ensure platform availability, security, privacy, and resilience for its internal and external service users, while also carrying out continuous improvements to the platform. It is an opportunity to work with a cutting-edge piece of technology, in a cross-functional team where you will be empowered to take responsibility.

We are looking for an individual with significant commercial Hadoop experience using Hortonworks (or Cloudera), supported by knowledge of security controls, cloud infrastructure and strong operational/technical expertise. You must understand the full Hadoop ecosystem - Hadoop, Hive, Ambari, Sqoop, Oozie, SPARK, Atlas, Ranger, HBase, HDFS and YARN - and also bring the wide-ranging technology background required to understand areas such as automating infrastructure, Linux administration, network protocols and authentication. An agile, open, collaborative and business-focused approach is essential, with a genuine passion for technology and what it can achieve.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

Up to 30 days’ annual leave

Excellent training and development opportunities

The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits

Flexible working hours and family friendly policies

Subsidised gym and restaurant (London only)

Interest free season ticket loan.

Closing date: midnight, 4th June 2018.
