Our client is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service.

Whatever the weather, equipment and crew need to operate to the very highest possible technical standards. It will be up to you to ensure this. This is an ideal opportunity to use your skills working on state-of-the-art lifeboats and the associated equipment throughout the East Region and occasionally other areas within the UK and ROI.

You will become part of a close team working with Station Mechanics, Contractors and other Technical staff to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repairs on all mechanical/electrical equipment and occasionally electronic equipment within the region. It’s a chance to really make a lifesaving impact on the vital maintenance of lifeboats and their equipment.

To be considered, you will need:

- A time-served engineering apprenticeship or experience in mechanical, electrical and/or electronic engineering

- An NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanical, electrical or electronic discipline

- A full driving licence

At least one of the following is also key:

- Wide knowledge of diesel and petrol engines/electrical systems

- Marine or plant experience

- Experience of construction/modification of electronic equipment

- Experience of the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment

A towing licence would be beneficial to your application.

This role is suitable for someone that is self-motivated and willing to go that extra mile, working either as a part of a team or under their own initiative to the highest of standards with a first fix approach to return company assets back on service as soon as possible. The candidate will need to take on new ideas and undertake training.

The role requires you to be part of a duty rota and be expected, when required, to work unsociable hours and involves having nights away from home during the week.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

The closing date for applications is the 3rd June 2018, with interviews scheduled for the week commencing the 18th June 2018.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
