Solutions architecture at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is hugely rewarding. Our world-leading ocean geospatial products keep commercial ships, navies and maritime organisations safe, and maximise their effectiveness. We also deliver all manner of economic development, resource exploration, scientific, security and defence projects - and turned over £145m last year. So as well as a technical challenge - there is an immense commercial aspect to this too.

The role calls for tight-knit collaboration with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, IT architects and delivery teams as you bring solutions to life. You will identify options, make recommendations and then assess the costs, issues and risks before coordinating development and implementation. Throughout, you will direct approvals and governance, and improve our process as a whole.

Naturally, we will look for you to solve challenges with new innovations, leading technologies and big picture thinking. Those ideas may come out of architecture practice meetings, collaborations with other UKHO teams, your work with SMEs, or even as you mentor and guide other colleagues.

MOD Defence Manual of Security, HMG Information or ISO27001 experience is essential. However, the position calls for someone used to not only leading architecture; but also distilling the efforts of multiple departments into well-crafted, highly-considered solutions. Solutions that reflect our strategic objectives, deliver value for money - and strengthen the entire maritime industry.

To apply, please send us a competency statement no more than 250 words in length for each of the below criteria:

› Understanding, interpreting and applying strategic direction at IT industry level.

› Resolving complex problems by formulating solutions and options, setting direction, identifying risks and issues, and considering technical and non-technical factors.

› Building collaborative relationships and partnerships with wide range of stakeholders to deliver successful business outcomes.

› Taking the initiative and being innovative to deliver effective changes and improvements.

› Seeking out and overseeing the implementation of solutions that deliver both quality and value for money.
