Insight into the working environment:
You will primarily be working on a large MS Access database. The database stores its data within SQL Server 2008 and integrates with a DB2 ERP database held on an AS400. There are around 80 users. The database supplements the business ERP software with critical business processes including engineering control, production planning, production orders & procurement.
Key Duties:
- Disable all unrequired functions within the MRW and other softwares. Ensure required functions are enabled
- Ensure remaining code compiles. Test & validate code to ensure it is free from bugs. Re-write or write new code as necessary to ensure the final solution operates correctly. Ensure that all new or reworked code is written with a defensive code mindset, that all errors are trapped, handled and logged.
- Adequately document relevant work to a professional level. All business critical processes are to be documented from a software and from a business process perspective. All code is to be fully commented to define 'what' the code does and 'why'. Complex code should also define 'how'.
Key Skills & Experience Required:
* Advanced level of TSQL including DML and DDL, stored procedures, functions, triggers & jobs
* Fully conversant with SSMS
* Manipulation of MS Excel and MS Word through the VBA object model.
* Deep and recent experience writing and debugging complex VBA.
* Advanced level of MS Access development including expert VBA skills, ODBC & ADO access to external data sources.
* A strong background of working within quality centric software development environments would provide a solid basis for this and subsequent work.
* Exposure to SQL Server Admin experience would be beneficial.
Other Comments:
The role is 9 to 5 Monday to Friday but with a willingness to support the business when the need arises outside of these hours.
