Defence in a Changing World

The National Security Risk Assessment recently concluded that the risks and threats faced by the UK have increased in scale, diversity and complexity; the increasing threat posed by terrorism, the resurgence of state-based threats, the impact of technology, and the erosion of the rules-based international order are now particular challenges for the UK. To meet them we have made major reforms to how the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Armed Forces are organised and operate to ensure that we can maximise our investment in Defence capabilities.

We must adapt to stay ahead, configure our capability to address tomorrow’s threats, not yesterday’s, build more versatile and agile forces for the future, and ensure our people have what they need to do what we ask of them. We cannot do everything on our own, so we must work effectively with our Allies and partners. And we must spend our budget wisely.

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) enables Defence people to live, work, train and deploy at home and overseas. We are one of the argest landowners in the UK and manage assets worth £21bn, with an annual budget of £3.3bn. We are at the start of an ambitious transformation and the Programme Director DIO will have the opportunity to make a big impact quickly.

The Head of Project Delivery role is a key enabler for getting business done at the strategic level. As a full member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will support the MOD in the delivery of our objectives by providing a strategic perspective on government activities and informed advice on key decisions. You will work with and be supported by a talented pool of people and you need to be passionate about developing the potential of others to deliver a first class service.

The post holder will be responsible for managing relationships with all stakeholders to ensure performance is optimised, and will be required to manage the political dimensions associated with high profile delivery in a department of state.

We are seeking an exceptional leader and role model with a proven track record of delivery and customer focus across a large scale, diverse, and technically complex infrastructure portfolio. Positive, impactful, driven and a natural collaborator, you will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, commercial acumen with the intellectual confidence to succeed, inspiring others and to operate successfully with senior level customers and stakeholders.

The role is rich and diverse and provides a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and inspirational professional with the vision, leadership and communication skills to join this dynamic and forward thinking organisation as it enters the next phase of its development.
