An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Tooling Engineer to join Nuclear Business in Derby.

In this role, you will work in our Tooling Team which provides bespoke tooling and fixturing in support of component manufacture and assembly. Design is a constantly changing field with continually evolving ideas on everything from fuel cells to low carbon emission engines to nuclear power plants. With new materials, technologies and changes in existing products, the challenges keep on coming.

Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance and through-life support.

Key Accountabilities:

* Take the journey through the full design process, from requirements capture through to concept, development and final design stages.

* Lead the generation of detailed requirements with the customer and identified key stakeholders as well as liaise with suppliers.

* Prepare the technical documentation such as design specifications, design reports and procurement specifications.

* Ensure the required design process is followed both internally and externally.

* Oversee the tooling design as it progresses through manufacture, acceptance testing and into service.

* Drive the technical programme to deliver the required outputs on time, to agreed cost and quality.

Qualifications and experience

* Degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent).

* Experience of Tooling and Fixturing design for component manufacture and assembly.

* Experience of presenting solutions to appropriate stakeholders in gated design reviews, demonstrating that all key requirements have been satisfactorily addressed.

* Technical understanding of: process design, mechanical design and substantiation, engineering process, engineering governance, relevant regulations, codes and standards.

* Sound knowledge of engineering principles including: design for manufacture, As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), design for assembly and maintenance, concurrent engineering, Health and Safety, environmental awareness, lessons learnt.

* Track record of focusing on delivery of complex, mechanically-engineered solutions against specific customer requirements to time cost and quality constraints
