Our client is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service.

Their lifeboat crews and lifeguards need a dedicated, professional and talented team behind them so whatever the weather their Lifeboats and Lifeguard assets need to operate to the highest technical standards.

As a System Technician, you will be expected to work closely with Station Mechanics, volunteers and lifeguards to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs on various pieces of equipment which could be anything from a Lifeguard Quad Bike to a brand new state-of-the-art Shannon Class Lifeboat.

Part of your duties as a Systems Technician will include trials of existing, repaired or new equipment so you will need to possess and demonstrate excellent mechanical and electrical/electronic knowledge. You should have a desire to stay current in the use of existing technology and a willingness to learn and be involved in the roll-out of new equipment and technology which is constantly changing within our client’s Search and Rescue equipment.

To be considered, you will need:

- A time-served engineering apprenticeship or experience in mechanical, electrical and/or electronic engineering

- An NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanical, electrical or electronic discipline

- A full driving licence

At least one of the following is also key:

- Wide knowledge of diesel and petrol engines/electrical systems

- Marine or plant experience

- Experience of construction/modification of electronic equipment

- Experience of the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment

Ideally, you’ll have a towing licence, but this isn’t essential.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

This role will based in Inverness and ideally suited to someone who lives within easy travelling distance of this location.

The closing date for applications is the 13th May 2018. Interview dates are to be confirmed.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using their expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
