About the role:
In short, you’ll be using data science techniques to help us improve Council services, do more for residents and shape our city’s future. You’ll work directly with service managers and their teams to identify ‘wicked problems’ and then use data science techniques to bring together data from multiple sources to generate new insights and innovative solutions.

The findings you generate will help our Directors with everything from developing new approaches to delivering services to major funding bids and negotiations. What’s more, by working with partners outside the Council on joint analytics projects, you can provide insights into even more key strategic issues facing Cambridge.

About you:
This is a role that requires more than technical skills. We’re looking for an experienced professional who can help to identify the strategic challenges faced by the Council and influence colleagues at the most senior levels. Using recognised techniques and tools, you’ll provide recommendations for the future.

We’ll expect you to be comfortable working with big data, statistical analysis packages such as R and demographic and demand modelling, using datasets such as Experian Mosaic. You should also be adept at customer segmentation, data mining using state-of-the-art methods and the generation of complex data queries (for example, using SQL, T-SQL or Hadoop). But it’s how you explain your findings that will be crucial in this role. It’s important that you can present complex information in a clear, compelling way.
