Technical Support Assistant

Ipswich, Suffolk

£19,411 - £22,837 (dependent on experience)

Our client is the charity that saves lives at sea.

Working from our client’s regional bases and support centres around the UK and Ireland, the Technical Support Assistant role provides essential support to the In-service Support Coastal Maintenance team for the completion of maintenance and repairs to the fleet of lifeboats, launch equipment and lifeguard equipment.

Reporting to the Divisional Maintenance Manager, your duties will require a broad understanding of engineering operations including the management of stores and stores deliveries. You will provide planning, scheduling, budgetary and administration support to both the Divisional Maintenance Manager and a team of Engineers, Technicians and Assistants located throughout the relevant engineering division.

The role involves some travel which will occasionally require nights away and working at other locations within the UK and/or Ireland. You must be available to work away as required although this will be a less frequent requirement after completion of induction and initial training.

You must be willing to provide support to the whole In-service Support team locally and act as a focal point for them, therefore you need to be well organised, a good communicator and self-motivated.

The importance of this role cannot be underestimated as it enables our client’s skilled engineers and technicians to focus on the critical task of keeping lifeboats and other equipment operational, efficient and safe whilst saving lives at sea.

To be considered as a Technical Support Assistant, you will need:

- Experience of working in an engineering environment

- Experience of stores management, office administration and co-ordinating and planning resources

- Extensive IT experience and aptitude including experience of Microsoft Dynamics AXV

- At a minimum, a GCSE standard education or equivalent and/or suitable experience

An NVQ Level 2 qualification in an engineering discipline would be beneficial to your application. A forklift truck licence would also be advantageous, however full training can be provided.

As this role often involves working on your own, comprehensive training will be provided within the organisation. You can expect to be away from home in order to complete training for certain periods during the first few months in the role, and this is seen as a requirement of accepting the role.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping work towards our goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using their expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.

The closing date for this role is the 29th April 2018.
