A VP of Software Engineering is required at a Global Marketplace / Saas Software Provider to run a team of 30 Developers currently, up to 50 in the future, in a collaborative, product-focused role.

The VP of Software Engineering will own developmental process and production execution, working closely with the Product teams and reporting into the CTO. You’ll be an ex-developer, but mature to this level of leadership and have a strong Technology-as-a-Product / SaaS or Marketplace background (preferably B2B).

Salary: £90k - £110k + bonus + benefits

The VP of Software Engineering will own developmental process and production execution, working closely with the Product teams and reporting into the CTO. You’ll be responsible for developing product technology and creating an R&D development environment.

The VP of Software Engineering will direct a range of product development initiatives (both development and technical debt reduction / phase out) that will support the CTO with their technical roadmap, as well as provide smooth facilitation of product development for the Product Director. The chief goal will be to help develop established products, but on-board new products into the knowledge pool as well. You'll be from a Platform / Marketplace background and understand how to give a brilliant user experience in connecting multiple entities on a platform / Saas product set.

As VP of Software Engineering, you'll own the code production processes, promote a fail-fast, a/b variance testing approach and have robust recruitment processes. You’ll be committed to quality, helping to balance the company’s need for product features with a drive for technical excellence.

While the team do adhere to Agile principles, more enablement is required and a fresh approach to help reduce technical debt and improve standards using agile iterative releases.

Essentials

Established VP of Software Engineering or equivalent, having lead a Development team of 25+ in-house developers - you’ll likely have a C#.Net stack background, with some Java exposure.

Strong Marketplace / Saas platform background - exceptional user experience knowledge for multiple-entity connecting products.

Strong evidence of agile, product-oriented R&D development practice advocacy, but from a scaled corporate as well as start-up, able to handle the corporate influence that comes with high growth.

Strong Development gravitas / background and able to steer development discussions from a previous hands-on perspective. Experience with modern software stacks, cloud-based platforms, and high-stakes infrastructure

Strong at questioning, reasoning and debating to a collaborative level for the sake of the product with senior peers and the CTO.

B2B background is almost essential, but a strong marketplace background and an interest in B2B is sufficient.
