The Home Office’s mission is to keep the country secure and our citizens safe. Our objectives are to prevent terrorism, cut crime, control immigration, manage crises effectively, protect vulnerable people and promote growth. Each and every member of Home Office staff plays a part in delivering these objectives. We cover some of the most high-profile policies in Whitehall. Home Office issues (such as anti-social behaviour, crime prevention, tackling drug use, immigration, policing and terrorism) are at the heart of the Government's agenda. Our responsibilities also have implications across Government, and so we work closely and cooperatively with a wide range of other departments. The challenges the department faces are significant and can change rapidly in the global environment in which we operate. This makes it one of the most exciting and stimulating departments to work in.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative person to be at the forefront of change in one of the great Departments of State. We are delivering significant transformation in order to continue keeping our citizens safe and our country secure. We need to boost our business analysis capacity to achieve this as the post holders will provide a key link between current and future business models, supporting and enhancing delivery on large scale and/or complex projects and programmes.

The right person for this role will have a proven track record of business analysis, including in agile environments, with the ability to translate strategy and end-to-end business design into detailed outcomes relating to change initiatives. You will need to be able to work at pace, as we operate in an often rapidly changing environment and be comfortable working autonomously to drive progress. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills will also be key.

Committed to understanding the needs of your specific projects, you will ensure extensive research has been conducted to ascertain the value of that activity. Using process modelling, gap analysis and impact analysis, you will use the relevant tools, techniques and methods to analyse complex problems, producing creative solutions and recommendations that will ensure the project achieves its targets. Working directly with a wide variety of stakeholders, you will ensure every action is fully auditable, guiding the project through its entire lifecycle. As such, you will have a practitioner level of experience of requirements management and business analysis, with an awareness of planning, risk and issue management, plus quality management and change control. You will also have a working knowledge of developing business cases. A natural leader, with good conflict resolution capabilities, you will guide change and inspire others. It would also be preferable if you had a qualification such as an International Diploma in Business Analysis, though if you don’t have this then an equivalent level of experience will be required.

You can be sure of a solid work/life balance when you join us. With the option to apply for this role as a full-time, part-time or job share position, flexible working arrangements will always be considered wherever possible. We will support you with 25 days of holiday, 9 bank holidays and one extra day of leave for the Queen’s birthday - plus a desirable benefits package that includes civil service pension options. Furthermore, you will receive ongoing development opportunities, including at least five days of learning every year. And of course, the level of job satisfaction is immense - because where else could you apply your talents to headline-making news?
