Location: Nottingham

Job description

A technical Business Intelligence specialist who underpins support and development activities for the Business Intelligence Solutions team within the UK. To understand technical support and development activities for a BI landscape with an Oracle Data Warehouse and applications including Oracle Business Intelligence.

Main Responsibilities

* Provide support/development and capability to undertake Data Load Processes e.g ETL, Oracle Streams/GoldenGate, TTS, SQL Loader, External Files, FTP, SFTP

* Creation and maintenance of batch process for warehousing activities.

* Writing and tuning complex SQL

* Provide support to other technical resources or business teams on complex issues and projects

* Troubleshoot BI tools, systems, software and reports; performance-tune as necessary.

* Use best practice methodologies of design and development for the BI Tools and data warehouse.

* Assist with requirements and prototyping possible solutions in conjunction with BIS BA's.

* Take part in the Design Groups share best practice and innovations.

* Develop technical designs for BI solutions including data warehouse and BI application elements.

* Create technical documentation for BI solutions.

* Develop and test solutions for BI solutions within a data warehouse and OBIEE or other suitable BI tool.

* Maintain knowledge of the BI Infrastructure and Architecture

* Keep up to date on the Data Warehouse and identify any impacts on the BI Systems

* Identify and implement improvements to the current BI Systems

* Out of hours work / On Call if required.

* Provide demonstrations of currently used BI Tools to the Business (MI Teams, Report Consumers)

* Contribute to the BIS strategy, advising of tools and applications, which will benefit our business.

Key Skill Requirements

The post holder will have:

* Oracle Database / Data Warehouse Knowledge

* Demonstrable Expert/Advanced SQL/PL SQL skills.

* Data Load Processes e.g ETL, Oracle Streams/GoldenGate, TTS,SQL Loader, External Files, FTP, SFTP

* Batch / Job Scheduling and Processing

* Good Understanding of Data Warehouse Design and Principals

* Performance recognition and tuning

* Unix/Linux navigation

* Knowledge of current BI Tools.

* Hardware Appreciation e.g. Storage/SAN, I/O, CPUs

* OBIEE and Qlikview, development and Administration

* DBA Process awareness

* Code Control usage and adherence

* Impact assessment

* Testing

* Good working knowledge of SQL tools (e.g. SQL Developer, SQL*Plus, etc)

* Ability to work with Server Technologies (e.g. Windows Server 2003)

* Strong ability to analyse user requirements

* Knowledge of JavaScript, XML, CSS, HTML

* Strong Analytical and Problem Solving abilities

* Good written and verbal communication skills

* Good Presentation skills

* Ability to prioritise work according to changing Business needs

* Able to work collaboratively, as part of a wider Team, to implement Solutions

* Develops and maintains a network of contacts across multiple IT disciples and business functions that ensure effective communication and allow for influencing as well as delivering.
