Lead Technical Engineer / Platform Engineer / Java / Linux / Apache / Docker / Ansible / Birmingham City Centre

Globally renowned and award winning Financial Services company based in Central Birmingham is looking for a highly experienced and passionate Lead Technical Engineer to join their IT team at their Midlands office.

The Lead Technical Engineer will be working in the eCommerce Platform team responsible for ensuring that the platform remains up and running and performs efficiently 24x7 throughout the year. The platform is built across the hosting services including Web Apache, Tomcat / Java and Databases. There is minimal physical infrastructure associated with the platform. It instead utilizes as fully as possible the host environments that are available.

Key Responsibilities:

*Handling of incidents and tasks raised in Service Now for Level 2 investigation of issues and problem solving.

*Day to day Management and Administration of the environment, including sharing some SL1 level tasks and responsibilities.

*Implementing project tasks and taking ownership of a number of project streams.

*Monitoring the stability and performance of the platform.

*Encouraging usage of automated solutions for deploying applications with an emphasis on scripting (Bash, Perl and/or Python).

*Implementing new solutions using existing framework methodologies.

Skills & Qualifications:

*Experience with configuring and troubleshooting some or all of the following technologies would be highly desirable: Java application servers, Linux, Apache Web Server, Docker and Ansible as part of Openshift.

*Experience of tiered application architecture.

*An understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) tools

*Familiarity with SQL queries for reporting and automation using Oracle.

*The ability to work in both local and remote teams while stayed self-directed and maintaining an ever-changing workload.

*Experience of working within and the ability to influence global virtual teams

*Ability to challenge and provide sound judgment to technical solutions.
