Technical Java/J2ee Architect - Manchester - £450/£500 per day- 6 months - April

Location: Manchester Rate: £450 - £550 Contract length: 6 months initially (Very likely to be extended) Start date: ASAP Who they are looking for?

A client of mine based in Manchester City centre is urgently looking for a Technical Java/J2ee Architect for a new transport project

The project:

This project involves the development of a new digital service for the application and processing of requests for parking badges.

Aligned to the GDS service lifecycle, the project is at the Beta stage. The previous phase focussed on exploration of the user needs and feasibility of a new service. At Beta we move into an agile development phase with a focus on delivery of a Minimum viable product (MVP) followed by incremental enhancement to replace the legacy service by the end of the year.

The project will continue to evolve through 2019 in terms of both functionality and usability.

The team is multi-disciplinary combining software engineering, user experience design, user testing, QA & webops (among others).

What you will be doing:

* Understand the problem domain, including existing architecture, governance framework, infrastructure and technical capabilities, of the organisation and how the solution will work within it

* Describe the capabilities and features of the solution to the project team, stakeholders and technical community

* Develop the solution from the logical and capability view to the technical capabilities and specifications necessary for both the project team and technical community

* Work with the Delivery Manager, Business Analysts, WebOps and Developers to refine the solution as required during delivery

* Work with Security architect to apply guidance on security and include it in decision-making

* Work with IA Specialist to design and implement information assurance

* We tend to find the best people are unique and have different experience and skill sets, but certain experience and skills are crucial for this role:

Essential skill

* Demonstrable knowledge of coding in multiple programming languages, primarily focused on the JVM ecosystem.

* Experience taking ultimate responsibility for designing and delivering one or more large scale solutions, understanding the various cross-cutting concerns such as security, performance and quality.

* Organised and led a team of at least three others. Experience of running multiple teams concurrently is highly desirable.

* Experience architecting solutions, including creating architectural artefacts, such as high-level designs, disaster recovery plans and support documentation.

* A rigorous understanding of automated testing, including Outside-In BDD and TDD.
