Design and safety Process Manager (Radioactive Waste Management)

A market leading Defence organisation is currently looking for a Design and Safety Process Manager (Radioactive Waste Management) to take on a permanent position ASAP. An opportunity for a self-motivated individual with a keen interest in waste management has arisen within HMNB Devonport.

This excellent opportunity is within the Radioactive Waste Plant Management Group (PMG), which is a friendly welcoming team whose focus is providing a fit for purpose service to internal and Royal Navy customers. This vacancy will be filled by an individual with a Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) degree, several years of relevant industry experience and a desire to work as part of a team.

The facilities managed by the PMG include the Nuclear Utilities Building (where solid and liquid waste is processed for disposal) and various effluent receipt tanks located across the Licensed Site. We work together to ensure that the waste handling and processing facilities meet both our customer's needs, and the expectations of our regulators.

The team shares a commitment to improving the waste management infrastructure and the service it provides. We are keen to maintain a professional and supportive working environment, which is friendly, helpful, has a strong team ethos and is adaptive towards the challenges that it faces. We are a multi-disciplinary team with members from a variety of STEM sectors. Due to this diversity we are able to analyse information and propose solutions to a variety of problems. To meet programme deadlines a flexible approach is needed with the ability to adapt to changing priorities where required.

The successful individual will need to demonstrate the following knowledge, experience and attributes:

* Knowledge/understanding of Safety Case outputs, preferably those pertinent to Waste Facilities.

* 5+ years' experience in a Science, Technology or Engineering (STEM) industry, preferably nuclear or other high hazard.

* Familiarity with the Licence/Authorisation conditions and the means of demonstrating compliance.

* Knowledge of legislation relevant to Radioactive Waste activities.

* Familiarity with the Design/Change Control processes in a regulated industry.

* Problem solving skills.

* Willingness to take ownership of waste management issues to support the submarine programme.

* Chartership from a relevant Institute (including but not limited to IMechE, IChemE, SRP). (Desirable)

* Good interpersonal skills to manage our internal and external stakeholders.

* Familiarity with the regulation of an operational facility, preferably nuclear (Desirable)

* Understanding of compliance against a nuclear safety case (Desirable)
