Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

We now have opportunities for individuals who can work with complex policy and strategic issues to play a lead role in a national regulatory initiative that will be a cornerstone of the UK energy market, and support a better deal for UK consumers. RIIO is Ofgem’s framework for setting price controls for network companies. It’s an essential tool in protecting the interests of consumers as well as ensuring the industry still benefits from the investment required to ensure security of supply. It’s an exciting time to be involved in RIIO; there are still significant policy issues to address in the current price controls, and we have already started to plan for the RIIO2 price controls which will replace the current model in 2023. These roles present an excellent opportunity to build up detailed expertise in electricity and gas networks regulation while also considering the strategic context of network regulation.

Primarily these roles will focus on two areas:

Policy analysis and development

Cost analysis and assessment

You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team where collaborative working and an outward facing approach are integral elements of the working culture. You’ll assess the performance of the gas and electricity network companies (transmission and distribution) under RIIO, ensuring they meet their commitments and promoting and protecting consumers’ interests. You’ll have the opportunity to work on complex challenges and problems, including regulatory, policy and commercial issues, as well as influencing key decisions on incentives for RIIO2. It’s a chance to be part of a fast-paced and collaborative working environment, so you’ll need to be comfortable working with change and ambiguity, and making risk-based decisions and recommendations.

These roles demand the ability to understand complex and technical policy, backed up with strengths in analysing and challenging data, concepts and models. Excellent communication skills are essential and it’s important that you can tailor technical material to different audiences. You should be able to bring both a strategic and creative perspective to solving complex problems, and bring a delivery focus to your work - managing multiple priorities to meet deadlines. We also expect that you’ll be degree educated or that you can demonstrate equivalent expertise through experience.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

Up to 30 days’ annual leave

Excellent training and development opportunities

The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits

Flexible working hours and family friendly policies

Subsidised gym and restaurant (London only)

Interest free season ticket loan.

Closing date: midnight, 3rd April 2018.
