The Government Digital Service (GDS) is hiring Technical Architects, across a number of government departments, with strong background and demonstrable technical expertise as well as leadership skills.

The role

You'll be responsible for the design and build of technical architecture, undertaking structured analysis of technical issues, translating this into technical designs that describe a solution. You can be consulted on design and are capable of providing design patterns, identifying the deeper issues that need fixing and looking for opportunities to collaborate and reuse components. You'll have strong demonstrable experience in communicating with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

The role involves working collaboratively both within your department and across other government departments. You should have deep understanding of agile delivery methods and comfortable challenging the status quo. You’ll have a good understanding of a broad range of technologies but each department we are hiring for requires specific technology stacks. We're looking for experience in building digital services, technical infrastructure and cybersecurity. You could be working on brand new digital services that will enable businesses to grow through.

You'll have strong software development and application architecture experience, with good knowledge of open source technologies, testing and at least one programming language, passionate about working in agile environments, continual, delivery techniques and DevOps cultures.
