London Wall, City of London Cloud solution provider Vital Telcom requires a key 2nd line network support Engineer who is highly customer centric with 3-4 years VoiP (SIP, RTP, QoS, COS, Codecs) and knowledge of network troubleshooting including LAN/WAN, routers, firewalls, switches, PBX deployment, TCP/IP DNS etc. Pre sales or customer support or NoC experience would be ideal.

The role
To support and maintain our hosted business phone system within the cloud environment. The role includes planning and implementing new customer installations, also management of existing customers; fault finding and escalations, liaising with third-party suppliers. Plus on-going customer support with existing customer add-on’s or moves and changes. As we manage our fully owned hosted PBX, development is ongoing and the platform constantly evolves. As such, the role involves an element of; design planning & liaising between our Head Designer and the overseas Portal/Engineering team. Also providing guidance, support and liaison between the parties ensuring new features or design work briefs are fully understood. In addition to managing overseas support personnel, the role encompasses network monitoring, development and general operations duties, ensuring that security, routing, switching and other related areas all run smoothly. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, be presentable with a positive attitude and have excellent pro-active problem solving skills. The role involves some customer facing account management for existing customers, also from time to time supporting new sales via pre-sales customer meetings.
Required experience:
Experienced engineer with a strong knowledge of networking (Routers, Vlans, VPNs, IPSec).
To have had solid experience with implementation, and design of VOIP systems. With a solid understanding of IPV4 and IPV6 networks and basic static routing on a network, including setting up routers with multiple external IP addresses, and setting up IPSEC tunnels between two sites. Experience essential with configuring a sophisticated router for larger business SME customers, with remote user connectivity to the network. The candidate needs to demonstrate a strong understanding of DNS, including creation of Zone files, reverse DNS, A, C, MX records and full email troubleshooting from DNS to MTA and client. Also to have an understanding of RAID array levels and practical array operations and best practice. To be comfortable remotely accessing VoiP Phones, routers, switches and firewalls and solving any related networking issues. To be competent in diagnosing issues from logs and packet captures, Wireshark traces etc.
The ability to diagnose VoIP problems such as call quality and signalling faults using VoIP monitoring tools and packet captures
A working knowledge of Linux and or Asterisk server systems
Basic understanding of the fundamentals of C programming and debugging
Experience managing wholesale VoIP carrier interoperability and tariffing
Experience working with VoIP billing platforms including CDR generation and analysis
Practical experience with database technologies
Scripting experience beneficial (but not essential) with languages such as Python, Perl, PHP or Bash
A proven ability to learn new technologies and techniques
Essential
Excellent technical and interpersonal skills with strong project management capabilities
Be able to demonstrate previous experience in the successful delivery of VoIP and Network installations.
Desirable
Full driving license
The role will also cover a very limited out of hours support function for UK business customer emergencies, as part of an ‘on-call’ team.
The standard working hours are 08:30 - 18:00 (finishing early on Fridays 17:30).
