Public Health England is seeking a highly experienced Area ICT Manager to lead the Porton and South West local area engineer resources and deliver high quality ICT services to PHE’s user community. This post will create the standards for operational delivery of ICT services to customers and ensure that local area engineers are focused on the right priorities, which are then well executed and delivered. They will work with management and engineering teams to ensure that PHE’s user community can undertake their roles effectively and provide the span of management that can support national and directorate objectives, such as estates changes and new technical implementations. It has specific responsibility for service levels and business continuity at a local level.

We are looking for...

A highly skilled and experienced leader and team builder, who can show clear evidence of motivating and enabling technical staff. You will be a highly motivated self-starter who can operate at a senior level and harness a range of skills and resources to deliver quality outcomes. You will have in-depth technical experience, able to deal with complex technical issues and work with other ICT professionals to resolve problems and to promote technical innovation, but you will couple this with great interpersonal skills and the ability to talk to people at all levels about technology in a language they can understand. You will be a role model for customer and stakeholder management, setting consistently high standards for customer satisfaction and able to monitor achievement through feedback and performance indicators. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver high quality performance across a whole team by coaching and mentoring your staff and use this to deliver continual improvement in quality and service. You will be able to work at a strategic and tactical level, setting longer term goals but also able to respond to changes in priority and emergencies. You must be confident and credible, able to influence and build consensus at the highest levels of the organisation.

As the remit of the organisation is to protect the health of the public, which is a 24x7 requirement, you may also be required to participate in an out-of-hours support rota which provides support cover for ICT emergencies, ensuring, in particular, that the services for which you are responsible meet the service delivery criteria. Much of this work is undertaken remotely, so can fit in with family responsibilities.

PHE is bringing together its national scientific laboratories and headquarters to create one of the world’s leading centres for public health science in Harlow, Essex, in the heart of the London and Cambridge life sciences corridor.
