This is a unique opportunity to help transform how Sainsbury’s uses data to create value for our business and our customers. As a Data Modeller, you’ll develop, update and improve data models to make great quality, well understood data available for reporting, analysis and insights. As a key member of our brand new Data and Analytics Centre of Excellence, your responsibilities will range from triaging new requirements to providing impact assessments.

This is a hugely varied role at the forefront of change. You could find yourself working on how we create a new data model for a whole new part of the business, or linking data between different areas. When we build a new solution, you'll draw the technical blueprint for what it will look like. You might take an existing model and add to it, or build a whole new section. Along the way, you’ll work across a wide range of tools, technology and business areas.

The customer will be at the heart of everything you do. You’ll create better ways to link all the rich data we have back to the customer and how we engage and transact with them. The changes your models influence will be visible every time you visit a Sainsbury’s store. What’s more, you’ll take care to ensure your models protect visibility and access to sensitive customer and colleague information.

As Sainsbury’s Group continues to branch out - from Argos, to Sainsbury’s Bank, to our online grocery offer - you’ll enjoy scope to take advance of new opportunities. There will always be a fresh challenge to explore and a new way to change the game. Across our broad team, you might aspire to progress into senior modelling roles, or branch out into solution design or information architecture posts.

So what are we looking for? A skilled data modeller with keen attention to detail, you have the ability to work with open source big data as well as more traditional structured warehouses. You have the ability to optimise data models for different uses and make use of the right platforms - from Hadoop, to Amazon Web Services, to Teradata. Retail experience is an advantage, but it’s certainly not essential. You’ll rapidly get inside our business in a fast paced environment.

Crucially, you demonstrate great communication skills. A good listener with real collaborative spirit, you take care to understand what stakeholders are trying to achieve. And you know how to clearly communicate back the complex options that will help them realise the best outcome.
