Broad description of role

The Graduate IT Technician will help our IT Consultant monitor and maintain the computer systems and networks. They may install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware and software faults and solve technical and applications problems, either over the phone or in person.

Key outcomes

                                                                                                              installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications;

                                                                                                               monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks;

                                                                                                              talking staff through a series of actions, either face-to-face or over the telephone, to help set up systems or resolve issues;

                                                                                                               troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults;

                                                                                                              replacing parts as required;

                                                                                                              providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports;

                                                                                                               following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system;

                                                                                                              supporting the roll-out of new applications;

                                                                                                              setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues;

                                                                                                              working continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate);

                                                                                                              prioritising and managing many open cases at one time;

                                                                                                              rapidly establishing a good working relationship with customers and other professionals, such as software developers;

                                                                                                              testing and evaluating new technology;

                                                                                                              implementing new applications;

                                                                                                              keeping asset register and new staff induction training re our IT systems;

                                                                                                              Periodic site visits;

                                                                                                              Ensuring backups and disaster recovery procedures are adhered to and current;

                                                                                                              Monitoring hardware performance and applying ‘hotfixes’ and security updates when advised by our IT provider;

                                                                                                              Logging support tickets with our IT provider and monitoring progress to ensure issues are resolved within the agreed timeframe;

                                                                                                              Providing IT schedules for our IT provider site visits and liaising with their engineer to get all tasks completed in a timely manner;

Qualifications:

Essential

                                                                                                              a degree or IT-related qualification

Desirable

                                                                                                               Previous IT related work experience

Experience

                                                                                                              Working on Networks, Applications, Windows, Active Directory, Remote Application Server & Load Balancing

                                                                                                              Knowledge of CRM, document management systems(such as Business Collaborator) and SOTI mobile device management would be an advantage

Knowledge

                                                                                                              The work is as much about understanding how information systems are used as applying technical knowledge related to computer hardware or software.
