We are looking for committed, skilled and enthusiastic colleagues to join our ICT team.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Specialist Cyber Security Engineer to take a lead role in the implementation of the cyber security strategy, and to run the technologies and processes that protect the organisation’s networks, systems and data. This is an important position with responsibilities including:

Running PHE’s cyber security systems, including firewalls, anti-virus, SIEM and remote access;

Developing secure configuration baselines and templates;

Managing operating system and application security;

Handling authentication systems;

Detecting and responding to emerging threats;

Handling security incidents;

Providing specialist information security advice to business representatives and other customers;

Developing and testing security incident response plans;

Contributing security and information risk knowledge to PHE’s business continuity and disaster recovery planning processes;

Understanding and providing guidance on the threat environment;

Developing security policy documents;

Authoring and presenting security reports to management.

Ensuring compliance with applicable security and IA standards and policies;

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge, experience and skills in the following areas:

Secure configuration concepts and standards;

Hands on with networking and firewall technologies and concepts, including network segmentation, Layer 7 firewalling and IPS;

Identity and access management platforms and techniques, including Active Directory and ADFS;

Remote access technologies;

Encryption of data in transit and at rest;

Operating system security, including Windows 10 features;

Operational security monitoring and incident management.

You will be a creative, resourceful and experienced cyber security specialist. In addition, you will have great interpersonal skills and a real commitment to giving our customers the best service possible.

In PHE we are dedicated to protecting the health of the public. This is a 24x7 requirement, therefore you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota which provides support cover for ICT emergencies, ensuring, in particular, that the services for which you are responsible meet the service delivery criteria. Much of this work is undertaken remotely, so can fit in with family responsibilities.
