EDF Energy is recruiting for a self-motivated, innovative Research Engineer, willing to pursue new technical areas! This job is devoted to the research in the fields of Data Capture, Sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication and advanced analytics.

Working collaboratively with teams across the wider R&D UK Centre is a key part of this role, as well as mentoring graduates and acting as an industrial supervisor for post graduate students studying at UK universities.

The Research Engineer is responsible for delivering high quality projects for internal and external stakeholders based in the UK and abroad. This will ensure coordination and knowledge transfer with EDF Group R&D, where there are existing capabilities, skills and activities.

An excellent knowledge of the technologies and the main challenges for this sector is essential.

Flexibility, adaptability, and networking capabilities are important to ensure that the Business Units priorities are fully considered and reflected.

The role is based at our new EDF Office in Croydon (Interchange), but some international travel will be required.

Do you:

· Have hands-on experience of leading research and development projects from idea to proof of concept focusing on new IoT, innovation in communication, digital technology, and data analytics?

· Poses a passion for developing expertise and a portfolio of projects related to Data Capture, Sensors, Internet of Things, M2M communication protocols and new communication strategies for consumer and data analytics coming from several sources (Connected Home, Electric Vehicles, Industrial assets, electricity network)?

· Enjoy managing relationships with senior stakeholders and technical colleagues to collaborate on projects, transfer knowledge?

We need experience of:

· Working experience with wireless sensor networks, and wireless communication protocols such as WiFi, Zigbee, BLE, Wireless Hart, RFID, LoRA, Cellular, Sigfox

· Experience of cleaning real data to prepare it for statistical analysis or machine learning (ie project on Kaggle)

· Hands-on experience with platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino

· Excellent skills in C/C++. Experience in Python is a plus

· Experience in electronics product design

· Knowledge of popular web and distributed system technologies (Java, XML, REST, Json)

· Experience in bid preparation.

· Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with experience in design and development of IoT systems
