Are you looking for a challenge and an opportunity to gain hands on experience of a new product development life cycle? This 2 year role offers you a chance to gain commercial experience at one of our strategic partners, Abbey Industrial Solutions, whilst being mentored by leading academics from Leeds Beckett University. If you’re interested in a higher degree (MRes or PhD) then you’ll also get the opportunity to apply to study alongside your employment - all fees waived.
We need someone with a background in engineering and a can-do attitude. You’ll need good software programming skills and preferably have experience of embedded software design. You will use this expertise to develop and deliver new products and embed a new product development capability at our strategic partner Abbey Industrial Solutions.
You will gain experience of working on products for the wide range of Abbey’s clients including those in the aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, defence and rail industries. Throughout the project you’ll work closely with staff at the university to apply the latest research and technical skills to deliver new products.
Abbey Industrial Solutions is one of the UK’s leading independent providers of industrial power tools, accessories and consumables. Working in partnership with the university Abbey Industrial is seeking to enhance its product base and services to its nationwide range of clients.
The successful candidate will be employed by the University but be based full-time at Abbey Industrial Systems’ offices in Castleford and other nationwide locations as required. The role is fixed term for 24 months with the opportunity to study a higher degree part-time (fees waived), and a genuine potential of permanent employment with Abbey on completion of the project. The University will provide academic and technical support to the project.
Applicants should have:
A Bachelor’s degree* in a numerate discipline e.g. engineering; software, electronics, mechatronics or embedded systems
Good software programming skills e.g. C/C++, Python
Practical engineering/system integration skills
Experience of embedded software design
Understanding of sensors, data acquisition systems and digital circuit design
Evidence of the ability to lead and deliver a project
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
