Manufacturing Engineer

Based in Glasgow the Manufacturing Engineer will work for a company developing laser systems deployed in a wide variety of markets including renewable energy, microelectronics, fundamental research, life sciences and medicine. Their aim is to make a positive impact on everybody's life by providing customers with lasers with superior reliability and performance.

The duties and responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer are as follows

*Define tooling, equipment and process requirements for new product lines

*Maintain and improve tooling, equipment and process requirements of existing product lines.

*Develop new and modified process formulations, define processing, handling equipment requirements and specifications and reviews processing techniques for continuing suitability.

*Review product requirements with design staff to ensure "design for manufacture" and compatibility of processing methods

*Compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process and/or material specifications

*Monitor defect rates in materials and processes and identify containment and corrective actions.

*Implement continual improvement programs.

*Evaluate engineering changes and new item releases for conformity with product and process requirements.

*Provide proactive guidance and support to responsible product lines

*Responsible for analyzing and publishing KPI's for designated product lines

*Optimize production floor and cleanroom layouts to meet changing business needs as they arise

To be successful in this position the Manufacturing Engineer will have the following skills and experience

*Educated to degree or equivalent level with in-depth experience in process/manufacturing engineering.

*Knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and cost reduction techniques.

*Technical lead in continual improvement programs achieving results using good engineering practices

*Experience in creating process flows, identifying waste and non value add activities, make recommendations for improvement/elimination and driving improvement activities to satisfactory completion

*Working knowledge of Solidworks and Solidworks composer

*Previous experience of new product introduction processes

*Familiarity with optic manufacture & handling techniques, laser production techniques, cleanroom environments and/or precision mechanical assembly would be an advantage

*Kanban

*Ability to work flexibly under pressure, frequently using own initiative.

*Organized and methodical in approach to routine and administrative matters.

*High level of attention to detail

*Excellent communication skills, in particular verbal skills

*Able to work as part of a team

*Able to work to deadlines
