Take your IT compliance knowledge to the next level

Whether it's education or transport, strategic planning or emergency services, Kent County Council's focus is on improving lives. We want to ensure every pound spent in the county delivers better outcomes for our residents, communities and businesses. Join our graduate programme, and we'll help you achieve your ambitions as you help us achieve ours.

The Programme

As a Graduate Compliance Support Officer, you'll take on varied and demanding work while supporting our compliance teams in keeping our IT systems safe. The role is an excellent opportunity to gain new skills and experience while developing your existing expertise. While performing risk assessments and reviews on information systems, you'll support on the submission of compliance across the Public Service Network Code of Connection (PSN CoCo) and NHS Data Security Privacy Toolkit (DSPT). You'll also engage with stakeholders across the council to make sure we have a sound understanding of our information assets and how to use them - this includes business managers, technical managers and asset administrators. Naturally, mitigating risk is a crucial part of the role, and alongside other duties you'll monitor day-to-day audit logs for areas of abnormal activity, working with colleagues to decide on action plans and further investigation if any risk is discovered.

There's also a strategic aspect to the role, as you'll produce detailed reports on compliance, explaining issues to peers and KCC managers as well as creating treatment plans and ways to improve our service. You'll then oversee the implementation of your plans and work with our Information Risk Assurance Officer to action them within agreed timescales.

Whilst on the programme, you will have strong support for achieving the Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 Apprenticeship, as you experience and gain appreciation for the various roles within an IT Compliance team.

 Who can apply?

You'll need experience working in IT and dealing with the technical controls of systems as well as human interfaces and security principles. You should also be comfortable working to a structured methodology, collating evidence and manipulating data in spreadsheets. Communication and collaboration are very important skills here, and you should be able to work with a wide range of teams and stakeholders to resolve issues while making technical processes comprehensible for non-specialists. We're also looking for candidates who have strong attention to detail and are self-sufficient, able to manage their own workloads and deliver exceptional outcomes.

In terms of qualifications, you should have at least a 2:1 degree or an equivalent qualification in an IT subject, along with GCSE grades A-C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
