The MCR also provides a degree of technology support for BBC Wales broadcast technical systems.

Role Responsibility

Operations Engineers in the MCR are responsible for the routing and support of broadcasts and recordings made via the Central Technical Area (CTA) in BBC Wales Broadcasting House. The principal aim is to ensure uninterrupted transmission of television and radio networks, along with our interactive output. A sample of additional role responsibilities includes undertaking critical system monitoring (e.g. servers, services, LAN/WAN, Live IP, etc), and maintaining and contributing to business continuity logs.

You’ll be logging and feeding information to senior colleagues to assist in operational improvements in the area. You’ll also be providing out of hours support and maintenance including patching/upgrades of hardware and software, providing operational support to productions via BBC Wales Technology Support Desk and scheduled maintenance relating to MCR systems. You’ll be expected to provide cover on a rota basis over a 24 hour period, 7 days per week, 365 days per year to contributors, journalists and other internal/external parties as well as support and/or maintenance of hardware and software.

You will have experience of broadcast monitoring, set-up and technical guidance for television, radio and online as well as of routing traditional and IP radio and television signals between studios, outside broadcasts and other sites. You will be adept at booking circuits using ISDN, ADSL, WMT and Comrex codec. You’ll have experience of assessing pictures and sound quality, and of providing remediation where possible.
