IAG GBS – Barbara Glinska, Business Information Security Officer (BISO)

We interviewed Barbara Glinska, Business Information Security Officer (BISO) at IAG GBS on her experience and thoughts on diversity in tech.

1. What does your job role involve?

My Business Information Security Officer (BISO) position is an independent role for the whole of IAG GBS. I manage the current technology and cyber risks faced by IAG GBS, and I work on new risk definitions with the owners of those risks. My work contributes to the IAG cyber security strategy and roadmap for IAG GBS. A key part of my role is to cooperate and work closely with security teams and the business. I work with the IAG Tech team to identify the obsolescence risk and mitigation plan, and I act as a focal point for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning.

 

2. What made you choose a career in technology?

Being in technology offers me a lot of knowledge, training, and development initiatives. I spread my horizons and I am up-to date with what is going on in the current IT word.

 

3. Did you study an IT or technology related subject at A-Level or University?

I am currently studying cyber security on Post-Graduate Studies in Collegium Civitas Warsaw. I will complete my studies in June 2022. I have a Master’s in Economics and International Relations with logistics and supply chain management profile.

 

4. Do you think there is a lack of diversity in the IT and tech sector?

I take part in a lot of training sessions and webinars related to cyber security and all the reports and statistics show that there are less women in Tech and IT than men.

 

5. What do you think the main issue is with the lack of diversity?

I think that women have sometimes less self-confidence, they think technology is not for them or is too difficult to get involved. Sometimes they are afraid of changes thinking this could potentially impact on their private life and family. We need to work to overcome this mindset.

 

6. Did you experience any barriers getting into technology?

I did not experience any barriers to get into technology, because people working in IAG GBS respect diversity.

 

7. What does diversity and inclusion mean to you?

To me, diversity and inclusion means that we are all equal and all have the same rights to develop our skills and progress with our career.

 

8. Have you ever experienced discrimination in the workplace? If so, how did it make you feel?

No, I have not experienced any discrimination in the workplace.
