Context

Semble is a B Corp that exists to bring businesses and communities together to make change happen from the grassroots up. Over the last 10 years we have run dozens of campaigns for major UK brands such as Persil, Carling & Iceland Foods and have established a network of 3500+ community organisations doing brilliant work all around the UK. We have a highly motivated team who work really hard and are fiercely proud of what we do and the positive change we have enabled. But we are restless to do more - to scale up and multiply our impact.

During the pandemic we saw the devastation wreaked on small but vital charitable organisations and this triggered us to build a game-changing new platform. We fundamentally believe in the power of business to do good and to that end, our new platform, ActionFunder, changes the way in which businesses and community groups connect. ActionFunder makes it quicker and easier to give and get funding. It reduces the cost of giving for businesses and provides better, simpler access to funding for groups.

We are running a live trial of the platform throughout the summer, in preparation for our public launch in the autumn. We have ambitious growth plans and need a senior operations professional with leadership experience in a tech startup context to join the team and help us achieve our goals.

Role objectives

The Chief Operating Officer will provide inspirational leadership across the organisation to coordinate and manage all aspects of the live trial and subsequent journey to product-market fit for Semble’s new funding platform, ActionFunder.

With multiple teams working towards the commercial success of this new platform, the objective of this role is to create a comprehensive delivery plan and manage the execution of that plan to time and budget.

The Chief Operating Officer will play a critical role in making sure that we have done everything that we can to achieve our business plan objectives. This includes oversight of: product feature development, marketing and communication plans; campaign delivery, customer success management and support; business development; cash flow management; and legal & compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the cross functional team through to successful delivery of the business plan
• Create and manage the cross functional plan for the live trial, public launch and early stage growth of ActionFunder, ensuring delivery to time and budget
• Maintain stakeholder alignment through regular reporting and communications
• Risk and Issue identification, management and mitigation
• Key supplier management and contractual oversight
• Strategic partner engagement and contractual management
• Cost and revenue management - ensuring alignment to the agreed business plan
• Work with legal counsel to ensure the compliance of the platform

Requirements

• 5 years as Operations Director, VP of Operations or COO in SaaS tech startup
• Track record of success and experience in launching market-facing software products
• Experience in launch of new products to market and associated marketing campaigns
• Strong project management experience
• Good with numbers and financial planning
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
• Excellent organizational and leadership ability
