Would you be interested in joining an award-winning and innovative academic publisher?

We have a new vacancy at Emerald Publishing! A fantastic opportunity for a Senior Cloud Engineer (DevOps) to join us and play a key role in Technology Department.

This role is home working for the time being and when our offices open back up, home working will be the new norm. This means we're flexible on location and open to those further out from West Yorkshire.

Who Are Emerald:

Emerald Publishing is a global publisher linking research and practice. Founded in 1967 to champion new ideas that advance research and practice. Today, we continue to nurture fresh thinking in applied fields where we feel we can make a real difference. We publish over 300 journals, more than 2,500 books and over 1,500 case studies, via our dedicated research platform.

Part of Emerald Group, a global learning organisation with a presence in 130 countries worldwide, bringing together Emerald Publishing and Emerald Works.

The Role & Team:

We are extending our digital content publishing systems and building a team of outstanding people who will use their expert skills to create these new and improved platforms, and the products that will run on them.

Working in partnership with our architects and developers, the successful candidate will have responsibilities for building and maintaining our AWS Cloud environment. You will be expected to be a subject matter expert in Cloud and DevOps - a hands-on engineer and technical authority.

We need someone who can…

  • Build, secure, and maintain Cloud infrastructure and environments, in particular AWS Cloud infrastructure, through automated cloud configuration (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Work with Architects and the Development team on the design, planning and implementation of development projects in an agile manner

Build and maintaining CI pipelines

Actively monitor cloud environments, using built in tools as well as tools such as Elk and Grafana

  • Provide operational support (potentially including some on-call)

Participate in the wider developer community, building relationships and identifying best practices that we can adopt

  • Provide cost/value optimisation
  • Demonstrate the requisite skills required to hit the ground running

We don’t need someone who…

  • Doesn’t act as part of a team
  • Isn’t proactive, enthusiastic, and passionate with an eagerness to learn new things
  • Doesn’t communicate with a commitment to providing expert service and advice
  • Finds a problem and doesn’t work to deliver an effective solution
  • Doesn’t love all things digital

Role Freedom

Within this role you will have the freedom to get involved in a wide range of Cloud (AWS) Platform initiatives and solutions as well as:

  • Explore, experiment, and implement new cloud technologies, especially within AWS
  • Help continually improve our ways of working and our use of cloud and DevOps technologies
  • Get involved with wider Emerald initiatives and help contribute to our goals of making a difference in our chosen domains
