RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) is based at Culham, within the (UKAEA) UK Atomic Energy Authority specialising in remote handling and automated systems. 

RACE has an excellent opportunity for talented Project Management professionals with a proven track record, to manage a variety of projects focused on developing remote handling systems for the next generations of power stations and also to support the UK effort to apply novel technologies to all challenging and harsh environments for the protection of people and advancement of industry.

The job holder will manage the delivery of complex technical projects from conception to delivery. The main responsibilities of the role will include: 

- Managing projects from conception to delivery in line with UKAEA technical management systems and project governance 

- Reporting and proactive stakeholder management 

- Driving execution to plan and managing spend ensuring the outcome is fit for purpose 

- Establishing and meeting milestones 

- Defining resource requirements for the projects you are involved in, including staffing numbers/skills, purchase estimates and facility requirements 

- Identifying risks to the project and generating and implementing mitigating strategies 

- Managing arising issues on the project, escalating for resolution when necessary 

- Maintaining the quality documentation and the audit trail for the project 

- Ensuring successful project handover to the end user, including relevant documentation 

- Interfacing with internal and external customers

Knowledge skills and experience 

Essential 
- Experienced project manager with an engineering background 

- Track record of delivering complex technical projects to budget, time and cost 

- Passion for ensuring good project management practices and culture 

- A proactive approach to safety, with good appreciation of UK compliance requirements in design 

- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise project value 

- Excellent influencing and collaboration skills 

- Familiarity with modern standards in the areas of Safety, Health and Environment, and Quality Assurance 

Desirable 
- Professional project management qualification is desirable but not essential 

- Engineering degree or equivalent (Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of qualifications) 

- Experience of leading teams and developing people 

- Good background knowledge and understanding of fusion science, technology and engineering
