Graduate Software Engineer in Spacecraft Ground Segments

The Space Division is looking for enthusiastic, ambitious and highly capable graduates to join our spacecraft Ground Segment development team. We deliver a wide range of projects, solutions and products to our customers, such as the European Space Agency, spanning large scale system developments used to monitor and control satellites to small technology studies involving research, prototypes and technology demonstrators. The company is working at the cutting edge of the space industry and enabling solutions for our clients to meet the needs of the latest trends in the sector.

As a software engineer in the Space Division you will take on a variety of project activities, including: designing, coding, testing and supporting software solutions for our clients. You will be working with people who are experts in their field and as a valued member of the team we expect you to make a real contribution to the success of our business.

Your first role will be on our Galileo project, developing and testing code alongside experienced developers, where you will gain real world experience on Europe's own GPS-like satellite constellation that will deliver key positioning services to the general public. Using our expertise we will build on your IT experience, progressing you within the company from an entry level to become an expert.

The work will be based in our Bristol office in the UK and the applicant needs to be able to start in July or August 2017.

Essential Skills:

* Demonstrable competence in a Computer Science, Software Engineering or a STEM related discipline with a programming capability (ideally Java).

* Linux knowledge including OS level experience and scripting

* An analytical approach and problem solving abilities

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

* It is expected that the roles will include some customer interaction, so candidates need to be fluent in English and confident in their role to represent the company

* Flexible to travel to customer sites (both UK and non-UK) and willing to work on customer sites on a short-term basis

* Must be eligible to live and work in the UK

* Willing to have Security Clearance

Desirable Skills:

* Understanding of software verification and validation

* Have an understanding and appreciation of good software development practices including the use of source code management systems and project standards/guidelines

* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel

* Track record for achieving deadlines

* Must be willing to work on diverse range of projects

* Candidates need to work in a collaborative team environment
