Information Security Analyst

Role Summary:

The Information Security Analyst participates in the discovery and analysis of security vulnerabilities and the delivery of the Information Security Vulnerability Management capability and corresponding services within the Information Security Incident & Vulnerability Management department.

The role's mandate focuses on web application penetration testing using manual techniques, including vulnerability scanning, analysis and verification of scan results and vulnerability data analysis.

Accountabilities:

This role is part of the Incident & Vulnerability Management team and responsibilities include:

* Performing web application penetration testing (ethical hacking) and vulnerability scanning activities.

* Provide various security metrics throughout the operating environment.

* Engaging with both internal and external clients regarding the issues that were identified as part of the penetration test.

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Provide assistance with process documentation.

* Conduct research and development as part of ongoing improvement (e.g. new techniques, technologies, trends).

* Assist with the design and documentation of new processes or practices.

Competencies:

* Degree in computer science/information security or equivalent.

* Two or more years of programming/quality assurance/networking experience or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to IT Security.

* Credited Industry experience in web application penetration testing is an advantage (OSCP, CEH, GPEN or GWAPT) but not mandatory.

* Familiarity with the tools and techniques used by ethical hackers including vulnerability scanners and network mapping tools.

* Basic knowledge of client-server applications, multi-tier web applications, relational databases, firewalls, VPNs, and enterprise Anti-Virus products.

* Basic knowledge of Information Security principles, protocols, practices and industry standards.

* Entry level understanding of existing and emerging Information Security technologies.

* Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills with a good aptitude in problem identification, resolution and good comprehension and interpretation of technical procedures.

* The ability to improvise and try various methods until successful in an assigned task.

* Ability to closely co-ordinate with the wider team in a highly dynamic environment.

* Knowledge of multiple operating systems and applicable system administration skills (Windows, Solaris, Linux).

* The ability to follow a strict legal process.

* Excellent written communication skills and presentation skills with the ability to work with highly confidential documents and information.
