We're looking for a hands ­on big data Java Developer to work alongside other developers and QAs in an Agile team. The Java Developer will be responsible for the development and the execution of a greenfield Omni Data solution based on Lambda architecture. The Java Developer will utilise Google Cloud Platform, while adhering to development best practices and standards and focus on building reusable and extendable code.

The Java Developer will work with your team members delivering elegant solutions and troubleshooting difficult problems. The Java Developer must have the ability to work both collaboratively and with limited supervision, delivering results within set deadlines. The Java Developer must have excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills.

The Java Developer's Responsibilities:

* Handle server-side development of a distributed Google applications

* Be responsible for production and high quality code

* Be responsible for code maintenance

* Solve challenging technical problems within distributed environments

* Design and develop high quality code

* Work in a team using the Scrum/Kanban methodology ensuring that your team meets your sprint commitments.

* Continuous improvement of the tools and processes used by the team

The Java Developer's Requirements

* Experience with:

* Strong commercial Java experience

* Track record of developing technology to enable large scale data transformation

* Google Cloud Platform or Amazon AWS experience

* Message­ driven architecture

* ActiveMQ/Kafka or similar

* Database development e.g. MySQL, MongoDB, noSQL, Neo4j, etc.

* Development and Testing best practices

* Maven, Git

* Linux command shell

* Experience with agile practices and tools (TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration)

* Understanding of software development life­cycle, Agile software design principles and build processes

* Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills

* A university degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field is a bonus
