We are currently looking for a highly skilled
Database Administrator
for a project based in Frankfurt with a provider of financial, banking and investment management services.

You will be working in a team responsible for:
* Managing the client's technology infrastructure
* Supporting, maintaining and enhancing existing business systems
* Delivering and deploying new systems, technologies and services
The Group provides each major business with a dedicated team that works closely with that business to understand its particular technology needs.
We're looking to recruit a Sybase Database Administrator to support the EMEA region. Whilst the technical skills set should centre around Sybase any additional DBMS experience, such as Oracle, MSSQL and/ or UDB is well regarded.
The main responsibilities of this role are:
* 2nd and 3rd Line Production Support for Database platforms
* Ensuring daily backups, monitoring and health of all systems
* Processing Help Desk requests for general DB activities
* Administration of Database servers and installations of new servers
* Ensuring optimum performance and availability of Database systems
* Ensuring Backups and validity of data structures
* Controlling Security and access to Database systems
* Ongoing upgrade and maintenance of database versioning
* Development and Design Consulting to Account Team and business users
* DR planning and testing
* Evaluation of new technologies
* Participates in weekend scheduled works when requested.
* Operates within Service Support and Service Delivery framework
You must be comfortable working on your own initiative in a rapidly changing environment. You must be able to perform under time pressure, and be prepared to work flexible hours. Ideally, you will be qualified to degree level with proven experience in a customer support role in another investment bank.
The Database environment comprises the following;
* Sybase servers running on Solaris operating systems. This includes multi-way replication globally.
* MSSQL servers, including clustered wintel systems
* Oracle servers running on Solaris operating systems.
* DB2 on the mainframe and UDB on Solaris operating systems.
The following characteristics are essential:
* Ability to work independently and remotely from core DBA team
* Being a strong, dynamic character, capable of dealing effectively with colleagues and business users
* The ability to troubleshoot and rapidly resolve production DBMS issues
* The ability to liaise with business groups and vendors about products, services and to summarise options based on benefits vs. risk vs. cost
* The ability to offer consultancy to other teams within the region on DB based requirements
* Being customer-focused and having excellent communication skills
Knowledge in the following areas is desirable:
* Sybase ASIQ
* Veritas Clustering products
* Windows Reporting and Analysis Services
* IIS and web related products
* Solaris Operating Systems
* EMC SAN environments
* ITIL fundamentals
